The oldest, most recognizable name in the business

Collegiate Athletic Travel (CAT) has called State College, Pennsylvania home since 1971. In four decades since its founder and President, Joel Malnick, first took a group of 200 Nittany Lion followers to the Cotton Bowl, CAT has counted more than a 180,000 fans, representing over 70 different universities, who have traveled on one of its programs.

Our name is what we do

From the beginning, CAT has specialized in just one thing: the planning and management of fan travel to the biggest venues in collegiate athletics.  As TV cameras pan the stands during BCS bowl games, March Madness and big-rivalry football weekends, you’ll likely see among the cheering crowd, many fans who have made the trip using CAT’s services.

Our Staff Makes the Difference

Separating us from the competition are the dedication and skill of our core staff whose combined experience exceeds more than 100 years in the group travel business.

Joel Malnick

President and Founder

In addition to Collegiate Athletic Travel, Joel was the co-founder of Great Times Out, at one time the largest airline branded golf travel packager in the country. He is also co-founder and managing officer of Group Travel Technologies, whose GroupMinder product is the standard management application for group travel providers nationwide. In addition to executive responsibilities, Joel oversees charter air arrangements and shares in the development of travel partner relationships. Joel was born and raised in Piedmont, California and attended Chico State, Indiana and Penn State Universities.

Sarah Twibell

Vice President and Partner

Following her flight attendant days with Pan Am and Continental, Sarah joined CAT in 1984.  She began working with university alumni and athletic offices, coordinating VIP bowl game and Final Four travel for client university administrators and trustees. Besides her management duties, Sarah oversees hotel negotiations, special event planning and coordination of on-site staff. Sarah hails from Portland, Oregon and attended Oregon State and Portland State Universities.

Jen Bagshaw

CAT Operations Manager

A Penn State Alum, Jen joined the team in 1995 as a member of the on-site travel staff. In 1997, she began overseeing the day-to-day operations and through the years has become a “Jen” of all trades. Whether assisting in program development, creating promotional materials and internet marketing, analyzing rates, or reconciling a trip, Jen has her hands in it. But it’s not all office work, Jen has traveled to 21 BCS bowl games, 11 Final Fours, plus various regular season weekend trips; her favorite cities being Phoenix, New Orleans and LA.

Amanda Becker

Tour Manager

Amanda organizes fall away game travel components and enjoys working with clients and vendors to ensure everyone has a great time on their trips.  During the bowl game season and Final Four, she’s knee deep in the thick of things making sure last minute details are complete. Prior to joining CAT in 2008, Amanda planned fundraising special events for a national non-profit in the Lehigh Valley for over 10 years.  As a Penn State and IUP Alum, she’s glad to return home to the Central Pennsylvania area.
